National Coming Out Day - October 11
The day is observed since 1995, with various society-oriented events such as debates, film day, introduction to the organisations working on LGBT issues.
Because this year falls around the UPR-related activities, we will make use of that. Plus we joined this year in the international observance of the day on 23 October, therefore the Coming Out Day will be celebrated with our trans community. Read more on this below.
International Day for Depathologisation of Trans Identities - October 23
The main objective of the campaign of International Day for Depathologisation of Trans Identities on 23 October 2010 is the removal of gender identity disorders from the diagnosis manuals (the DSM from the American Psychiatric Association, whose newly revised version is due in 2013, and the ICD from the World Health Organization, due in 2014), and the action to ensure the health rights of trans people.
LGBT Centre joined this campaign and will hold a joint event with the "Hands Up 4 Ur Rights" campaign with the participation of our trans people.
1. Participatory needs assessment/discussion among trans people
2. "My gender is my business" where trans community members will utilise the space, each other, props and multimedia (voice recorders, photocameras, videocameras if available, webcams) to create multimedia expressions of/about their gender. This will be collected and published by the LGBT Centre online as well as in a print format for future distribution with its information materials and posters, especially during the November 2010 - end of February 2011 "End Discrimination!" campaign by the LGBT Centre.
